The faculty and staff of Pinewood – The American International School of Thessaloniki send our warmest greetings as we begin the 2010-11 school year!

With the completion of a variety of Pinewood 60^th Anniversary celebration activities and the opening of our new Library-Media Center last year, we are poised to once again introduce a variety of initiatives and program enhancements to better serve our students.

Significant goals for 2010-11 include the opening of our new Writing Center, the completion of our mid-term accreditation report for the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges, the review of our school science curriculum and teaching resources, and the opening of our after school English Language Center. Our school will also undertake a Feasibility Study this fall to determine the best facilities use for the recently acquired surrounding land space.

As an independent, non-profit school, Pinewood – The American International School of Thessaloniki has been serving the local international community for 60 years as the only school in Northern Greece that offers both the American high school and International Baccalaureate (IB) diplomas. Our Pre-K through Grade 12 classes are taught in English while special ESL classes are for students in need of additional English language support.  Pinewood maintains accreditation through the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges in the USA.

An increasing number of Greek national students are admitted in Pre-K and Grades 7-12, thus allowing them the opportunity to thoroughly prepare for competitive university study in the United States, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere.  The school maintains two IB Scholarship tuition-free programs for entering Grade 11 students and beginning this September, Alexandra Manos and Theodora Pilitsis begin their full IB Diploma studies as new Pinewood IB Scholars.

Pinewood maintains a warm, caring, and orderly learning environment for our children.  Our faculty, staff, and administrative team are positive, energetic people who have high expectations for themselves and for our students.  With a continued focus on teaching, learning, and performance, the all-around success of Pinewood students is our single top priority!

We encourage parents to actively join us in the life of our school through participation in a variety of events and forums scheduled throughout the year.  A cooperative effort between parents and the school in the education of our children will maximize the opportunities for student achievement.
