Requirements

Eligibility

Citizenship. In accordance with the laws in Greece, students applying for admission in Pre-Kindergarten - Grade 9 must possess a valid non-Greek passport. There are no restrictions as to nationality for Grades Pre K, K and 10-12 and Greek students, too, may apply.

English Proficiency. English proficiency is not a requirement for admission for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5. Special ESL classes are provided for those who, after testing by the classroom teachers, are judged to need them. A special Language Admissions Policy exists for secondary students (see below.) An extra charge is assessed for students needing English as a Second Language (ESL) training.

Age Limitations- Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 1. To be eligible for Pre-Kindergarten, a child must have reached the age of three by August 31, 2007; for Kindergarten the age of five by December 31, 2007; for Grade 1 the age of six by December 31, 2007.

Documentation from Previous School

Records for the year immediately before Pinewood are necessary for Kindergarten to Grade 8. Students entering the high school (Grades 9-12) must produce complete school records for all previous secondary years, Grades 8 and above. In certain cases, the school may request grades and other documentation directly from the previous school.

Health Records

It is extremely important that the school have accurate health records for all students, particularly with regard to hearing and vision and any special medical conditions and restrictions for each child. The school has developed a basic Certificate of Child's Health, which must be filled out in full by the parents and a physician and submitted before the child can attend classes at Pinewood. Families needing the services of a local physician can obtain references from the school office.

Students With Special Needs

Pinewood does not currently have the facilities or staff to deal with children who have serious learning, emotional or physical disabilities. Parents of children with problems of this kind should take into account that adequate educational programs and facilities in English do not exist in Thessaloniki. Parents of prospective students are advised that the school is able to serve only those students who can function in the regular program. Pinewood reserves the right to refuse admission to any student who, in the opinion of the school administration and designated qualified outside experts, is in need of special programs and support services which Pinewood is not currently able to provide.
