After-School Activities Program – Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12

For the past several years, Pinewood has been making a determined effort to improve the after-school activities program at all levels. A variety of new activities have been added, particularly at the elementary level, and, as always, additional activities are under consideration for the future, depending on interest and resources. An activities coordinator has been appointed to ensure proper organization and supervision of the entire program. Following are activities offered in the past depending on interest shown by students:

Suggestions from students and parents for new activities as well as advisors for these activities are always welcome and should be directed to the activities coordinator. Some of the activities, mainly sports and forensics have their showtime during the school year in tournaments and other interscholastic events. The remaining clubs present their work in a special show, the Annual Activities Festival, which takes place every April or May.

Note on transportation at the end of the after-school activities program: A special after-school activities bus is provided each day and paid for out of the after-school activities fees that all parents pay. Every attempt is made to accommodate as many students as possible in making the schedule for the after-school bus schedule, but due to the length of the run some students may not be able to be taken near their homes. In other words the school cannot guarantee bus transportation for all students. In such cases it is the responsibility of the parents and not the school to provide transportation home and to make sure their children are picked up at school at 4:30 p.m. If on some occasion the person picking the children up will be late for a reason beyond their control, they must notify the activities coordinator before that time as to when they will be arriving so as to insure proper supervision of the students until they are picked up. If such lateness for pickup becomes frequent, the students in question may not be allowed to stay after school for an appropriate period of time.
