Middle School students have been spending one school hour a week reading for pleasure in our newly developed Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R) program. The purpose of this program is to acquaint students to the idea that reading can be a fun and relaxing activity that can promote creative and critical thought.
Mainly we hope that, through this guided activity, our students have discovered or will discover a love of reading!
Since its beginning in October, students have cumulatively read hundreds of books and have also each created a mini project about their favorite read so far this year which are now on display at the entrance to the Library. Their great literary and artistic works were created in addition to all other class assignments and we congratulate all students on their contributions.
Do check out their creative and thoughtful work and stay tuned for the upcoming Middle School D.E.A.R. project, which will line the walls of our school in the near future.
