An Inspiring Gift for Future Scientists, Engineers, and Entrepreneurs

Introducing the Fetfatsidis Family Science & Engineering Laboratory

Understanding how the physical world works, and learning how to build and improve it, is essential to innovation and economic prosperity.

At Pinewood, students develop a strong foundation in the Science, Technology, Arts, and Mathematics of STEAM. Yet the “E” is often overlooked. For us, that “E” represents both Engineering and Entrepreneurship: not only creating value through technological innovation, but also learning how to capture that value by turning promising technologies into viable businesses.

This vision is the purpose behind the transformation of Lab 223 in the Middle and High School complex into the newly named:

Fetfatsidis Family Science & Engineering Laboratory

"Inspiring future scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs."

Made possible by a generous gift from the Fetfatsidis family, the laboratory will give students the opportunity to experience the complete engineering cycle. They will be able to design prototypes using professional CAD and analysis software, build them with 3D printers, test materials and components using a new Universal Testing Machine, and continuously refine their ideas to optimize for performance, cost, and quality.

The space itself will also be refreshed to bring this iterative process to life, creating an inspiring, engaging, and motivating environment in which students can experiment, learn from failure, and turn ideas into tangible solutions.

Alongside these improvements, Pinewood will begin developing new mini-modules in Engineering Design & Materials and Entrepreneurship & Commercialization for High School students, with adapted versions that allow Middle School students to begin exploring these fields earlier.

The Fetfatsidis family believes that the next generation of great innovators and entrepreneurs is sitting in our classrooms right now. This laboratory represents an investment in their potential and in their ability to design, build, test, improve, and ultimately bring new ideas into the world.

On behalf of the entire Pinewood community, we extend our deepest gratitude to Kostas and Vicky Fetfatsidis and their children, Kyriaki (Class of ’31), Maria (Class of ’33), and Apostolos (Class of ’34). Their generosity reflects a deeply personal passion for engineering and entrepreneurship, as well as a future-focused vision for Pinewood’s students.

We cannot wait to see what our students build.

Thank you to the Fetfatsidis family for helping us invest in the next generation of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
