    EYP & Elementary Principal's Letter

    Dear Pinewood Parents,

Wow! What a month! The leadership team here at Pinewood went to Athens for the NESA Leadership Conference. This consisted of 5 days of learning, sharing and cooperating with other International schools. As you can see, a great time was had by all and it was an enriching experience providing us with many strategies to bring back to our school.

So many great things are happening here at Pinewood. We had student council elections in third, fourth and fifth grade. They were working hard all month at preparing for Trunk or Treat.

Speaking of Trunk or Treat - Did you make it to this event?

Our theme was Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). A gigantic thank you goes out to all of the parents, students and teachers who helped make this event such a success. Special thanks go out to Maesie Cailou, Cathy Van der Ha and Mino Morou. Without them, Trunk or Treat would not have happened.

Have you asked your child what they did to celebrate World Food Day earlier this month? The kids were cooking and they made pastichio, a Greek salad, and a fruit salad. All of this food was donated to Praksis (@ngopraksis), a local NGO to support #zerohunger.

The Greek teachers, in cooperation with the art department, put on a wonderful celebration of OXI Day. There was singing, reciting of poems and acting. The teachers and students all did a splendid job of portraying the spirit of this national holiday. I even teared up at the end when all of the kids sang “Mia Nea Arhi” (A New Beginning).

Parent conferences are this week. Check your email for details on how to schedule an appointment with your child’s teacher. If you still need to schedule an appointment, please click here.

Flu season is upon us and the kids are getting sick - and getting each other sick. Here is some information from the CDC on how to prevent catching the flu. Also, if you are not sure when to keep your child home, check with your doctor or click here for some general guidelines. Remember, a child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

This month, we celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday, 22 November. Our students will put on a performance at 11:30, which all parents are invited to attend. After the performances, we will all gather in the gymnasium for a Thanksgiving Feast. Please keep an eye out for information coming home from your child’s teacher about what dish your family should bring. Also, parents are invited to take their child(ren) home with them following the feast.

Thank you as always for your continued support. We cannot do this alone. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns. And if you’re at the school, please stop by my office and say “hello”.
