Host Country Studies Trip to the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki

Grade 1

Tuesday, November 7, 2015

Baron Pierre de Coubertin, one of the founders of the modern Olympic Games said, “If someone were to ask for the recipe for “becoming Olympic”, I would say that the first prerequisite is to be joyful.”

Visiting the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki was pure JOY, and a great cultural experience for our Elementary School Grade 1 students. Their innocent points of view help us better understand what Baron Pierre de Coubertin said back in the early 1900s, “May joy and good fellowship reign, and in this manner, may the Olympic Torch pursue its way through ages, increasing friendly understanding among nations, for the good of a humanity always more enthusiastic, more courageous and more pure.”

On the 7th of November, we participated in an Olympic Museum educational program on Health and Nutrition. We also met Mr. Manolis, a Thessaloniki Chef and cooked savory Cookies with Carrots, Cheese and exotic ingredients like Turmeric and Coriander.

Ms Georgia, the museum’s educator, guided our students through the Nutrition Pyramid, encouraging them to be inquisitive, imaginative and active.

We had a wonderful time learning what is good for us to eat, cooking with the company of a Chef, singing old Greek songs, and eating!!!!!
