Welcome to the American High School Diploma, Advanced Placement, and GOA opportunities at Pinewood.
At Pinewood American International School, we offer students a rigorous and internationally recognized academic path through the American Diploma, complemented by opportunities to pursue Advanced Placement (AP) courses and Global Online Academy (GOA) courses for an enriched, flexible high school experience. At Pinewood, High School is not a single track. It is a personal academic journey.
The American High School Diploma provides a comprehensive high school curriculum grounded in U.S. education standards. It ensures students develop strong foundational knowledge across subjects, critical thinking skills, and the flexibility to explore areas of personal interest, preparing them for higher education anywhere in the world.
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college-level classes available to students who wish to challenge themselves beyond the standard curriculum. AP courses give students the opportunity to earn college credit and strengthen their university applications. Each AP course is carefully designed to deepen understanding, foster independent learning, and cultivate academic excellence.
Global Online Academy (GOA) courses allow students to study unique subjects offered virtually by top educators from around the world. GOA courses give students access to specialized topics not always available in a traditional school setting, encourage global collaboration, and develop skills such as digital literacy, cross-cultural communication, and self-directed learning.
Together, the American Diploma, AP courses, and GOA courses create a flexible and personalized academic experience. Students follow the American Diploma requirements as their foundation, select AP courses to pursue college-level rigor, and enrich their learning through GOA courses that align with their passions or future goals. This combination allows students to craft an education tailored to their strengths, interests, and aspirations while preparing them to excel in higher education and beyond.
At Pinewood, our goal is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive in a competitive global environment—through a solid high school foundation, advanced academic challenges, and access to globally connected learning opportunities.
Warm Regards, Dr. Apostolos Rofaelas

Pinewood High School graduates leave with strong academic preparation and the confidence to succeed in higher education around the world. Just as importantly, they grow within a truly international school community that shapes how they think, communicate, and connect.
With students representing over 55 nationalities, learning happens every day across cultures, perspectives, and experiences—preparing students for life in a global society.
Our graduates develop:
Strong academic foundations across disciplines, supporting success at universities worldwide
Confidence in their abilities and decision-making, built through independence and responsibility
Experience making informed choices in an international learning environment
Skills in critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, strengthened through daily global interaction
They are prepared not only for university, but to adapt, engage, and thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
Pinewood’s High School program combines clear academic structure with the flexibility students need to thrive. All students work toward a minimum of 22 graduation credits, thoughtfully distributed across core academic subjects and electives. This design ensures both consistency and opportunity, supporting a wide range of academic interests and future pathways.
What families value:
Clear expectations and transparent requirements, offering confidence and predictability
Smooth transitions for international or transferring students, with individualized guidance and support
The opportunity to exceed minimum requirements, allowing motivated students to stand out
Most Pinewood students graduate with more than the required credits, reflecting both academic ambition and the breadth of opportunities available.
Advanced Placement (AP) courses offer college-level academic challenge for students who are ready to explore subjects in greater depth. These courses are designed for motivated learners who want to extend their thinking, strengthen their academic profile, and engage with university-style expectations while still in high school.
At Pinewood, AP courses are thoughtfully integrated into each student’s academic pathway and supported by experienced teachers who guide students toward success.
Why students choose AP:
University-level content that encourages advanced analysis, critical thinking, and subject mastery
Recognition by universities worldwide, supporting strong applications and future academic opportunities
Opportunities to demonstrate academic ambition and independence, both in coursework and assessment
AP courses are optional and intentional. Students select them based on readiness, interest, and long-term goals—ensuring that academic challenge remains purposeful, balanced, and motivating, rather than overwhelming.
Through Global Online Academy, Pinewood students access innovative, future-focused courses taught by expert educators from leading schools around the world—during the regular school day.
GOA courses are carefully integrated into a student’s academic program, allowing learning to extend beyond the physical classroom while remaining fully supported within the Pinewood schedule.
GOA adds:
Specialized and emerging subject areas, giving students access to topics not always available in traditional settings
Global collaboration with peers from different cultures, perspectives, and educational systems
Skills in digital communication, time management, and self-directed learning, essential for university and beyond
This flexibility allows students to expand their academic experience without sacrificing balance, helping them grow as confident, independent learners in a globally connected environment.
