GPA That Reflects Learning
Academic performance at Pinewood is measured through a clear, fair, and internationally understood GPA system designed to reflect both achievement and effort.
This approach promotes confidence, resilience, and long-term success, helping students develop a positive and purposeful relationship with learning.
How It Works
-
Advanced courses are weighted, recognizing higher-level academic challenge
-
Final grades ensure consistency and clarity, providing reliable academic record
- Students are encouraged to challenge themselves within a supportive framework that values growth, effort, and progress.

GPA Policy
Pinewood applies a dual GPA scale:
- Advanced Placement (AP) courses: weighted 5.0 scale
- American Diploma (AD) and Global Online Academy (GOA) courses: unweighted 4.0 scale
AP course weighting is contingent upon AP Exam participation. Students must sit the official AP Exam in May for the course to receive weighted GPA points. If the AP Exam is not taken, the course is calculated using the unweighted AD/GOA GPA scale, regardless of course enrollment.
In Grades 9 and 10, MYP grades are included in GPA calculations.
MYP criterion scores are converted to letter grades and GPA points using the AD & GOA (unweighted) GPA scale.
GPA calculations are based exclusively on final course grades.
Progress reports, term grades, and interim assessments are not included.
This GPA system is designed to ensure clarity, equity, and international credibility, recognizing both academic achievement and course rigor.

Weighted GPA credit for AP courses is awarded only when students complete the corresponding AP Exam.
