Psychological Support & Protocols

Psychological Support
The School Psychologist provides support to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, academic, or learning-related concerns within the school setting. Parents, guardians, teachers, and students may contact the School Psychologist to request consultation, guidance, or follow-up support.
Pinewood’s counseling services value connection, relationships, and collaboration among students, families, teachers, and the wider school community. Support is offered with respect for each student’s individual needs, personality, cultural background, and family context.
The aim of the School Psychologist is to promote student wellbeing, emotional development, social growth, overall functioning, and readiness to engage in learning. Support may include individual meetings, small-group support sessions, teacher consultation, parent meetings, classroom support, and collaboration with external professionals when appropriate.

Confidentiality & Parent Communication
Counseling meetings are held in a safe, respectful, and confidential environment. Confidentiality is an important part of the counseling process; however, as support takes place within a school setting, confidentiality has limits.
Parents/guardians and relevant school staff may be informed when there are concerns related to a student’s safety, wellbeing, learning, or when additional support is needed. Information is shared thoughtfully, respectfully, and on a need-to-know basis. The level of parent communication may vary depending on the student’s age, developmental level, and the nature of the concern.
Parents can generally expect to be informed about significant concerns affecting their child’s wellbeing, emotional functioning, safety, learning, or school experience, as well as recommendations for additional support when needed.
Specific details shared during meetings are not routinely communicated to parents unless:
- there is concern regarding the student’s safety or the safety of others;
- there are child protection or safeguarding concerns;
- the student may be at risk of harm;
- or disclosure is necessary in order to provide appropriate support.
Whenever appropriate and developmentally suitable, the School Psychologist will encourage and support students in communicating important information with their parents directly and will aim to involve the student in conversations regarding what information may need to be shared.
External Referrals & Collaboration
School counseling is supportive and educational in nature and does not replace long-term clinical psychotherapy or psychiatric care. When more specialized or ongoing support is needed, families may be referred to qualified external professionals or appropriate external referral options.
With parent/guardian consent, the School Psychologist may also communicate with external therapists, psychiatrists, or other professionals in order to support continuity of care and help ensure that school-based support is aligned with the student’s needs.
The student’s wellbeing remains the primary priority throughout this process. Click the button below to view a list of our recommended external referrals.
Dormitory Student Support
Students residing at the Anatolia Dormitory Facilities, as well as their families, may contact the Dormitory Liaison, Ms. Marianthi Serafeim, if they have concerns or experience difficulties related to dormitory life, adjustment, or wellbeing.
Regular communication and collaboration between the Anatolia Dormitory team and Pinewood Student Services help support students’ emotional wellbeing, adjustment, and sense of belonging within the school community.
